The ITRS is designed to be a global standard. To keep the system consistent and reliable for bikers everywhere, it is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 with a special CC+ agreement.
✅ What you CAN do (Free of Charge, even for commercial purposes):
- Signage & Maps: Use ITRS graphics and criteria on your signage, maps, and websites.
- Planning & Building: Use the ITRS to plan and build trails.
- Data Usage: Use publicly available rating data for applications such as trail apps or GPS platforms.
- Marketing: Mention ITRS in your marketing materials to describe your offerings.
⚠️ What requires our written permission:
- Commercial Training: Running paid courses to train others in the ITRS methodology.
- Certifications: Performing official certifications based on ITRS.
- Software Integration: Integrating the ITRS logic into an app or software designed to perform ratings or calculations.
- Unlisted Commercial Use: Any other commercial applications not explicitly listed under “Free of Charge.”
- Modifications: Any changes to the official colours, graphics, or definitions of the ITRS levels.
How to attribute us
Please include the following credit on your materials:
“The ITRS – International Trail Rating System is used with permission from Mischa Crumbach and Edoardo Melchiori.”
If you feel the need to change the content of the ITRS, e.g., graphics, images or text, you have to contact us and we find a solution together. This allows all users of the ITRS to benefit from feedback and enhancements.
