GARDA TRENTINO – NEW MTB GUIDANCE SYSTEM SHOULD TAKE A PIONEER ROLE FOR EUROPE

The German website Pedelecs und E-Bikes has recently published an article about the pioneering role of Garda Trentino in applying the ITRS (International Trail Rating System) to its vast network of mountain bike trails and routes.

The FSA BIKE Festival 2023 in Riva del Garda showcased a new mountain biking (MTB) guidance system, evaluated and signed according to the International Trail Rating System (ITRS). Developed in collaboration with an outdoor signage agency in Innsbruck, Austria, the system introduces clear signposts with large directional arrows, route numbers, names, and QR codes for additional tour information. The ITRS classification system, based on quarter circles, provides quick insights into technical difficulty, trail condition, exposure, and wilderness factors. The initiative, led by the International Mountain Bicycling Association, aims to standardize signage across Europe by 2024. User feedback is encouraged through a feedback form, and ongoing trail maintenance is ensured by Garda Rangers. The system’s success in the popular Garda Trentino region could potentially set a precedent for broader European adoption.
